WAPRO- Increased Water Efficiency and Food Productivity- Phase I, II

Sub-project Organic Rice India (2013- Present)

Description:

PnP is implementing a Water Productivity Project, which contributes to SDG 6: ensure availability and sustainable management and sanitation of water. This project aims to use sustainable practices to improve water productivity in the rice-based system in the state of Haryana.

The project strives to unfold synergies between Governments, Development NGOs and the private sector to realize an innovative combination of improved irrigation water productivity and food security.

Organic Rice Project is the sub-component of this project:

Under this project, PnP promotes organic farming, increase the income of farmers by organic practices and capacity building of farmers (empowering them on the sustainable techniques in agriculture). 2000 MT/yr. of organic Basmati rice and 200 MT/yr. of pulses exported.

WAPRO II– HARYANA PROJECT (2018-2021)

Project Location: Haryana

Project Duration: 3 years

Description:

The project aims to demonstrate

  1. Significant economic and environmental benefits in large rice growing area for the community to see, experience, learn and adopt water efficient techniques for sustainable agriculture.
  2. Disseminate learning and results among neighbouring farmers in innovative ways (farmer meetings/ data sharing/ training/water pledge) by involving local communities to institutionalize experience sharing.
  3. Involving local governments to make people aware of existing policies and subsidies and influence policies as required.

Services:

Policy dialogue- By demonstrating water efficient farming practices in three different areas (Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Karnal) in Haryana and disseminating the results and learnings, we aim to create a faster ripple effect and to maximize the adoption of water-saving practices in the whole of Haryana. We aim to mobilise all possible stakeholders like farmer groups, market players, CSOs, NGOs and the government at large.


Livelihood Restoration and Support for Flood Affected Population, Kerala (2019)

Project Location: Thrissur, Kerala

Project Duration: 6 Months

Description:
PnP is undertaking a livelihood restoration project in Kerala for supporting activities for flood affected population in Thrissur District, Kerala. The objective of the project is to carry out the rehabilitation activities to the most affected communities through cash transfers and enabling them to restore their livelihoods.

Services:

Engaged two local partners AVARD and ESAF who have a long experience in providing grants to flood affected people to identify the beneficiaries and organised cash grants. Under the project around 400 beneficiaries have been benefitted.


Bio Gas Project (Operation and Maintenance) 2014- Present

Client/Partners: Funded by WWF, myclimate in association with HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation

Project Location: Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh

Project Duration: 5 years

Description and Services:

The main objective of the project is to enhance climate resilience and quality of lives in rural households in Uttarakhand through deployment of clean energy technology in the form of biogas digester.  Construction of more than 3500 biogas units with an objective of replacing fuel wood for cooking in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh was supported by WWF and Myclimate. The other objective is to enhance household incomes with entrepreneurship and alternative livelihoods.  The construction of Biogas units has been completed.  The beneficiaries have been given detailed orientation training on the operation and maintenance aspects of the biogas plants. Apart from the training, the organisation also undertakes the maintenance of biogas units and create opportunities for income generation.


Strategy Workshop for Lupin Foundation (2019)

Client/Partners: Lupin Human Welfare and Research Foundation

Project Location: Pune

Project Duration: 3 months

Description and Services:

PnP has concluded an assignment with Lupin Human Welfare and Research Foundation which aimed to conduct a workshop to review LHWRF’s current strategy, sectoral portfolio and to develop a framework defining their strategy and goals. A two-day workshop was moderated by a two- member team (facilitator and documentation specialist) for Lupin Foundation which will be used in December 2019 for future strategy. The task entailed developing a ‘Results Framework’ of the selected sectors that LHWRF works in and prioritising the sectors for future interventions


Income Increase Study of Beneficiaries of Lupin Human Welfare and Research Foundation (2019)

Project Location: Rajasthan

Project Duration: January 2019

Description and Services:

A study was conducted to assess the impact of Lupin Foundation’s interventions on incomes of its beneficiaries. A total of 214 households were covered as part of the study covering 29 locations (28 villages and Bharatpur city) in eight Panchayat Samitis in Bharatpur. The fieldwork was completed in January 2019 and a final report was shared with the client in February 2019

Development of Youth in Nainital District, Uttarakhand, India (2019 - 21)

Client/Partners: Collibri Foundation, Colruyt Group, Belgium

Project Location: Uttarakhand & Belgium

Project Duration: 3 years

Description and Services:

The overall goal of this project is to offer vulnerable young people in Uttarakhand and Belgium opportunities for a successful future through training, coaching and exchange. The long-term impact sought through training, internships and additional initiatives is that youth become leaders in their own sphere, and some become entrepreneurs. 


Tribal Organic Coffee Project (2019)

Client/Partners: Integrated Tribal Development Agency

Project Location: Chintapalli, Andhra Pradesh

Project Duration: 3 years

Description and Services:

The core objective is to improve the productivity and income levels of Coffee and Pepper growers, to also replicate the same for other plantation/ agriculture crops and facilitate availing of benefits of other social development schemes of the Government.  Also develop farmer institutions for collective processing and marketing and other activities. We have already procured 200 metric tonnes of coffee.


Climate Resilient Interventions on Dairy Sector in Coastal and Arid Areas (2019)

Client/Partners: Animal Husbandry Department - MoEFCC Project under the National    Adaptation Fund for Climate Change (NAFCC)

Project Location: Andhra Pradesh

Project Duration: 3 years

Description and Services:

The objectives of the project are to advise on design of Climate resilient cattle sheds, monitor impacts of climate resilient sheds on cattle productivity, health, addressing consistent fodder Climate; training entrepreneurs in production and marketing crop residue bales, urine and milk; Production of training modules and other material.

Mimoza Enterprise Finance Pvt. Ltd. (Mimo Finance)

Client: NABARD, MIMO

Project Location: Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh & Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

Description and Services:

To familiarize 100 loan officers from various microfinance institutions with the lending process, information gathering, loan analysis and loan approval process.


Safe Water Access Project (2010)

Client/Partners: Water.org

Project Location: Uttarakhand & Uttar Pradesh

Project Duration: 2 years

Description and Services:

To provide credit linked Water Supply Access to Safe Drinking Water & purification products such as Hand pumps, Water Connection and Water Purifiers to 9, 000 poor households from states of Uttar Pradesh& Uttarakhand in India benefitting 45,000 people. Generated demand for pure drinking water through awareness activities. Expenditure on health was reduced by 50%. Contributed to UN MDG by drastically reducing infant mortality rate in the target areas.
